Youth Development
Y.E.S Program
Caleb has created
a dynamic youth program that will be entitled "Y.E.S." which
means Youth Empowerment Source. The Y.E.S. program is created to provide
additional educational stimuli to sharpen skills in basic learning as
well as provide positive activities emphasizing academic growth and
focused decision making. In addition, it was our desire to provide automated
resources on a continual basis for families with low to moderate incomes.
By doing so, it allows the children of these families the same opportunity
to excel as their peers of higher income families. This will assist
in helping the youth stay in school, which directly reduce the possibility
of them resulting into a life of crime. This program is held in three
sessions: Fall, Spring and Summer. This program is located within our
Neighborhood Network Sites.
The Y.E.S. program
objectives are as follows:
1) To provide low-income
children access to technological and reference resources that stimulate
and enhance their learning
2) To curb the
drop-out rate by providing tutoring in math, reading, and writing to
at-risk students who evidence a high rate of absenteeism and exhibit
personality and adjustment problems
3) To encourage
students to explore positive career options if they choose not to pursue
post-secondary education
4) To prepare students
to pass and score in the upper percentile brackets on the EXIT Exam
as well as college and military entrance exams
5) To help students
develop life skills such as problem-solving, money management, self-management,
communication, and social skills
Program is being
supported through a grants from the Baton Rogue Area Foundation, Work
